This is the biggest tomato I’ve ever grown. It must have been almost 4 lbs, but I didn’t bother weighing it because the evil squirrels already took a big chunk out of it (at least this is one they couldn’t run off with entirely!) Interestingly it is only one of many very large tomatoes from this one vine I grew from seeds my friend K gave me that her grandfather brought over from Italy (I call the variety ‘Martinelli’ after her maiden name.) The vine itself is also huge but the tomatoes take a long time to ripen. Clearly they are adapted to the longer seasons in the Mediterranean. The tomatoes ripen pink and are very ‘meaty’, a bit bland but sweet in taste (very low acid).
